Search for single sources of ultra high energy cosmic rays on the sky

چکیده

In this paper we suggest a new way to identify single bright sources of UHECR on sky on top of background. We look for doublets of events at the highest energies, E > 6 × 10eV, and identify low energy tails, mainly deflected by the regular Galactic Magnetic Field (GMF). With the parameters adopted in this paper, for 68% of reconstructed sources, angular position is less than one degree from real one. Reconstruction of the deflection power of magnetic field is strongly affected by the turbulent component of the GMF and for typical values of 4μG near the Earth, one can reconstruct deflection power with 25% precision in 68% of cases.

30TH INTERNATIONAL COSMIC RAY CONFERENCE HiRes Limits on Point-Like Sources of Cosmic Rays with Energy Above 10 eV

Point-like excesses have been alternately claimed and refuted in the direction of Cygnus X-3, BL-Lacertae objects, and others. We conduct a search for point-like deviations from isotropy in the arrival direction of ultra-high energy cosmic rays in the monocular data set collected by the High-Resolution Fly’s Eye. We find no evidence for point-like excesses and place a 90% c.l. upper limit of 0....

Search for very high energy gamma rays from possible ultra - high energy cosmic ray sources by the MAGIC

The origin of ultra-high energy (UHE) cosmic rays is still an open question. In the present work, we searched the possible UHE cosmic ray sources using the MAGIC telescope for the associated very high energy (VHE) gamma ray emission. Due to constrained propagation distance of such cosmic rays, we selected nearby galaxies in vicinity of the direction of the AGASA triplet and a HiRes UHE cosmic r...

Ultra-High Energy Cosmic Ray and Neutrino Observations

Recent measurements of ultra-high energy cosmic rays and neutrinos are reviewed. With several new large scale observatories nearing completion or becoming fully operational only very recently, a large body of high quality and high statistics data is growing up now. Already these first data have started to open up a new window to the high energy Universe giving us first direct clues about the or...

VERITAS Observations of the Arrival Directions of the Highest Energy Cosmic Rays

The recent discovery by the Pierre Auger collaboration of anisotropy in the arrival directions of the highest energy cosmic rays, correlated with the positions of nearby active galactic nuclei [1, 2], encourages the search for counterpart TeV gammaray emission. Approximately half of the sky viewed by the southern hemisphere Pierre Auger experiment is also visible at reasonable elevations for th...

Anisotropy studies of ultra - high energy cosmic rays as observed by the High Resolution Fly ’ s Eye ( HiRes )

Although the existence of cosmic rays with energies extending to 320 EeV has been confirmed , their origin remains one of the most important questions in particle astrophysics research today. The High–Resolution Fly’s Eye (HiRes) is the largest aperture detector currently collecting data from ultra-high energy cosmic ray events. We present for the first time anisotropy studies from monocular an...
